Chloe Turner is a writer, curator and PhD student (2020 - ) who’s research asks critical-creative questions at the intersection of queer cultural theory and production, trans feminisms, critical race theory and visual culture. She is an Associate Lecturer in Design at LCC, University of the Arts London and in Media, Communications and Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London.
Since 2018 Chloe has held Feel Tank workshops, seminars and lectures, both in the UK and internationally. Feel Tanks have been supported as part of multiple British Academy / Leverhulme Trust and AHRC funded research projects the most recent being: 'Feeling, Making, Imagining Time: Everyday temporal experiences in the Covid-19 pandemic' (2021) with Dr Rebecca Coleman and Dr Dawn Lyons.
Aside from Feel Tanks projects, Chloe’s writing has been published, or in the process of review for Soapbox: Journal of Cultural Analysis, Metaphor as Metamorphosis: Art Journal and the Journal of Visual Culture.
‘Feel Tanks’ (a spin of ‘think tank’) derive their name from the Public Feelings Project which operated from the conviction that ‘understanding affective investment can be the a starting point for theoretical insight into the workings of capitalism, racism and sexism within power structures.’ Chloe Turner has been using ‘Feel Tanks’ as both intellectual enquiry and call-to-arms, to consider how to sustain living under capitalism in the current moment.
In the continuing struggles of global conservative government, pandemic ‘new normal’ living and the increasing instability of arts and humanities funding, how can we bring into being the feminist space we want to be a part of? One where we gift our labour to each other as opposed to institutions, co-create the spaces to weather the coming disasters and mobilise a resistance that centres pleasure and joy.You do not need to bring anything other yourselves and lots of feelings!
